About Filipa

Filipa Fairy has been a self employed artist sine 2001. She started out as a face painter, dressed like a fairy, while at the same time painting murals, mostly around Dunedin. Quitting the face painting, Filipa then painted fairyland artworks and kept the name Filipa Fairy.

Filipa is also an expert lantern sculptor. She’s made and designed small lanterns for 10years with the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival and has run the very popular lantern workshops. Also at the same time as face painting and murals. Filipa now focuses on making giant lanterns and occasional art directing.

A lot of Filipa’s work can be seen in print at the Blueskin Community Market or available here on this website.

Filipa's Inspiration's

I love colour.

When I paint i just get lost in the colours and what I can make with my palette.

I also love the natural environment, especially the forest and animals. A lot of my work is of native New Zealand flora and fauna.

Some of the artworks are of a cartoon style. This is because they are a collaboration of my husband, Jay the Juggler and I. He draws characters on any paper that he finds, for example, a shopping list. Then I have turned them into paintings, adding colour to these wacky characters.
